Dakota Café is a local restaurant located at the Victoria Airport tower in the Victoria Flying Club Building, housing dining area and patio overlooking the Victoria International Airport. We are focused on friendliness and great food using only the freshest house-made ingredients found in the local area. Our extensive menu consists of breakfast and brunch, as well as a lunch menu that highlights our famous wonton soups. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am – 2:30pm.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

We are looking to expand our team with a permanent full-time cook who is passionate about the food and beverage industry, can engage and motivate the team in a fast-paced environment, and can successfully assist in our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be quick and diligent, able to work under pressure, have attention to detail, and is a team play. The knowledge of making wonton soup is a vital skill for this position. They will be responsible for:

●Cooking and preparing full and partial meals including meats, vegetables, soups, and salads, executing daily food preparation and task lists

●Preparing meals from our consistent menu, as well as daily specials and wonton soups

●Weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients/seasoning to be used throughout the day in order to guarantee taste profile stability and to minimize waste

●Preparing (bake, roast, broil, etc.) or instruct/oversee preparation of food items that need to be cooked in advance for use throughout the day

●Ensuring that the quality of food meets the restaurant standard

●Observing and testing foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils

●Collaborating with other kitchen and managerial personnel to create, plan, develop, and/or improve menu items

●Maintaining inventory records of food, other supplies, and equipment

●Monitoring stock regularly and order more supplies when necessary

●Keeping working area clean and tidy during and after shift

●Ensuring that the kitchen is in sufficient condition that it will pass a health inspection at any and all times

●Supervising, scheduling, and coordinating activities of cooks and other kitchen helpers, assisting in training new kitchen hires

●Training, instructing and/or correcting cooks and other kitchen workers on the proper food preparation and storage procedures and on the proper use of kitchen equipment, health standards

●Take measurements using basic tools, such as scales, containers, and thermometers

●Prepare and cook special meals when required by customers, taking into consideration allergies and food preferences

●Oversee kitchen operations to ensure the delivery of uplifting cuisine and liaise with management to maintain efficient kitchen operations

●Must be able to use various kitchen equipment, e.g. broiler, deep dryer, grill, and ovens

Skills Requirements:

●Completion of secondary school

●Minimum 3 years cooking experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training

●Familiarity cooking Asian dishes and cuisine, particularly wonton soup

●Food Safe Certificate
